FUN FACTS ABOUT PARIS
– Paris nickname – The City of Light – has nothing to do with electricity. The famous moniker came about during the Age of Enlightenment when Paris stood as the center of education, art and philosophy. Artists, writers and sculptors traveled from all over the world to live there. The name continued to seem appropriate as the city modernized with large gas lamp-lined avenues
– By law, no buildings can exceed six stories in Paris. The reason? – So that all have sunshine
– Guy de Maupassant (the famed French writer) ate lunch at base of Eiffel Tower almost each day. His reason was that he hated the Eiffel Tower and that was the only place in the whole Paris from which he could not see it
– When the mummy of Ramesses II was flown to Paris in 1974, it was issued a passport that listed his occupation as “King (deceased)”
– During WWI, France built a ‘Fake Paris’ near the capital city to confuse German pilots
